Andy Harvey (Head Arborist)
Hi, I'm Andy Harvey and I set-up Arborist Tree Care. I have worked as a freelance tree-surgeon since 2000 firstly, part-time during the summers to fund myself through my Forestry related degree at Bangor University, Wales - 'Natural Resource Management'.
After graduating in 2004 I began specializing in Arboriculture (the science of trees) and have continued ever since. After qualifying as an Arborist in 2005, I have learnt to fully appreciate the difference between a 'Tree-Surgeon' and an 'Arborist'. Basically, to become a Tree-Surgeon, you have to learn and qualify in the practical aspects of tree climbing, chainsaw work, chainsaw use from a rope and harness and groundwork. To become an Arborist, you must study in the bio-mechanics of trees, how they grow, how they react to pruning, tree diseases, De-compartmentalisation of Decay in Trees, and all the practical aspects of tree surgery. the list is endless!! I began to learn the theoretical knowledge of trees, whilst studying 'Tree Surgery for Craftsmen' City & Guilds at Merrist Wood (Guildford College) and continued my studies, specializing into Arboriculture Through a global correspondence course set by The International Society of Arboriculture - which I'm pleased to say I passed in 2006, so am now an Internationally Certified Arborist!
I'm as active outside of work as I am when I'm climbing trees! I have a vast repertoire of outdoor sports that I enjoy, including: Rock Climbing; Mountain Biking; Walking; Canoeing; Kyaking; Surfing; Skateboarding; Snowboarding; and more recently Skydiving.
I'm am always looking for new ways to explore the outdoors, and feel that all the sports I do, strongly reflect many aspects of my work - in that they allow me to be 100% in control, in what could be seen as 'extreme' circumstances!!
